Listen as librarians Anne and Maggie talk with Grammy-nominated musician Stephen Wade about folk songs, banjo playing, and his newest book "The Beautiful Music All Around Us: Field Recordings and the American Experience."
Join us on Thursday, July 17 for an incredible evening in the Great Hall presented by the wonderful performer and storyteller, Stephen Wade. In a performance of live music, projected images, and spoken narrative, Wade will explore iconic American folksongs and their back stories drawn from his award-winning new book,"The Beautiful Music All Around Us: Field Recordings and the American Experience."
Wade has sought out the performers, families and acquaintances from thirteen American folk recordings to reconstruct how this music worked in each of their lives. "The Beautiful Music All Around Us" and accompanying CD will be available for purchase during the event with a book signing after, or you can purchase directly through the University of Illinois Press.
