An excerpt from the U Street Oral History Project from DCPL's oral historian Kelley Navies.

Please join us on Thursday, August 28 at 6:30 p.m. for a multimedia celebration of the U Street Oral History Project at Busboys and Poets on 14th and V St. NW. This event will feature live performances by theGreater U Street Jazz Collective, R & B guitarist Greg Gaskins and other artists. Historical commentary will be provided by WPFW radio personality and Jazz historian, Rusty Hassan as well as Georgetown University African American History Professor, Maurice Jackson.

Come and learn about the rich history of U Street from those who lived through its glory days in the 1940s, the early days of R & B, its decline in the aftermath of the 1968 riots on through the present. Made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, this program will be hosted by Special Collections Librarian and Project Director, Kelly E. Navies. From 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Busboys and Poets on 14th and V St. NW.
